Stanford University is seeking a temporary Life Sciences Research Professional to provide confocal light microscopy training and experimental support in a service center environment. LSRP 1will work in collaboration with senior research staff members to train and support Stanford graduate, post-doctoral students and other researchers both from Stanford and external institutions and companies.  The position is a 3 (min) -6 months (max) temporary position to fill in for on-leave staff.  Expected start date is May 1st though earlier may be possible.  This positon is in the School of Medicine’s Beckman Center Cell Sciences Imaging Facility.  The CSIF provides high resolution, state-of-the-art technologies for imaging and analyzing the molecular and structural organization of cells and tissue as well as bioengineered materials to all Stanford University and industry researchers.

Duties include:

·       Training users on use of advanced confocal microscopes (Leica SP8 and SP5, Zeiss LSM880-AiryScan).  Providing technical support to trained users.

·       Provide, support and training on image analysis/processing and 3D rendering software (FIJI, ImageJ, Volocity).

·       Offer suggestions and modifications to imaging procedures and protocols in collaboration with graduate students and post-docs.

·       Input reservations and assist in monthly billing using iLab Solutions.  Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

·       Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of microscopes and lab areas.  Work with service providers to arrange repair of microscopes and computers as needed. Help with general lab maintenance as needed.

·       Help orient and train new staff or students to accessing data file servers, placing reservations on iLab software, obtaining access to facility off-hours, safety procedures for usage of microscopes and work areas, process users’ requests for card key access to facility

·       Provide technical and general lab support as needed for ensure functional imaging lab.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Temp position LSRP 1 should have a strong understanding of fluorescence microscopy as well as have working, practical understanding of wide-field light and advanced laser scanning confocal microscopes (e.g. resolution, sampling, controls, lasers, objective lens)  Experience with Leica (SP5, SP8) and or Zeiss (LSM 880 AiryScan) confocal microscopes highly desired.  LSRP 1 should have a good understanding of cell and molecular biology and basic microscopy lab techniques. Understanding of immuno-fluorescence and labeling techniques in tissue and sections. Working knowledge of pc/Windows computers, as well as graphics programs (Volocity, ImageJ. FIJI, PhotoShop) and general computer skills (transfer of files between platforms, file format differences) is desired.
