Count, Measure and Showcase Your Images (February 20th 2016) ---Sunny Fort Lauderdale Florida!

->Small class size ensures ample interaction with the instructors and allows for personal solutions to be developed.

->Split afternoon sessions allow in depth exploration of preferred topics.

Organizers: Richard Cole, Wadsworth Center, Claire Brown, McGill University, Philip Hockberger, Northwestern, Teng Leong Chew, HHMI Janelia Research Campus

The workshop will be broken down into a morning session and two afternoon sessions.

Session 1 (Morning)
The first session will feature presentations and hands-on:
. Image processing and analysis exercises for identifying and counting objects (e.g. noise reduction and filtering, edge detection, segmentation).
. Measuring quantitative properties of objects (e.g. background and shading corrections, size, shape, intensity). FIJI and MetaMorph software will be used.
. Introduction to Multi-dimensional data: 4D (visualizing and publishing movies), true color imaging (human color perception, color space, tricks for printing and publishing in color)

Lunch will be provided

Session 2 (Choose One, run concurrently) (1st afternoon session)
2a. Color Imaging: Getting the most information out of true color images stained with H&E or for immunohistochemistry (control vs diseased tissues, machine learning software for color image analysis). Image Pro Premier software will be used.

2b. Co-localization: Pixel based measurements such as Pearson's and Mander's co-efficients, correlation co-efficients and object based co-localization (e.g. how many early endosomes contain my protein of interest). FIJI and Imaris software will be used.
Refreshment Break will be provided

Session 3 (Choose One, run concurrently) (2nd afternoon)
3a. 3D Image Deconvolution: Introduction to deconvolution, segmentation, counting and measuring objects in 3D data sets. FIJI and Autoquant software will be used?

3b. Time-Lapse Image Analysis: Exercises in how to create and present time series data for supplemental movies, seminar presentations and 3D graphs for publication. FIJI, Volocity and QuickTime

. Demo versions of the following software will be available prior the workshop:
. Media Cybernetics Image Pro Premier and AutoQuant (PC Only)
. Molecular Devices MetaMorph software (PC Only)
. Bitplane Imaris software (PC and Mac).

. All course materials will be available for download.
. We encourage registered participants to upload their own images and questions before the workshop.
