The Role
We seek to recruit a staff scientist to bring quantitative fluorescence microscopy methods to a wide group of researchers and projects through training and collaboration. You will work across the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology (CBCB) and the Faculty of Medical Sciences Bioimaging Facility to drive forward high resolution single cell and single molecule fluorescence microscopy. There will be a particular focus on applications of quantitative microscopy to bacterial cell biology, alongside eukaryotic cell biology projects.
You will focus on supporting and training biologists in acquiring single cell, single molecule and high throughput/ high content data, and in developing quantitative analysis workflows to analyse these data. It is expected that you will take an active scientific role in collaborative projects, for example, developing new microscopy protocols and image analysis workflows.
We are looking for a scientist who is experienced in high resolution fluorescence microscopy, eg. single cell or single molecule microscopy. You should have experience in quantitative image analysis, preferably also with proficiency in image analysis via a common scripting language, eg Python, ImageJ scripting, MATLAB.
Collaboration and training are core to this position, so enthusiasm and ability to work well with others is essential. Experience in bacteriology is not required as support wil be provided. Prior staff scientist or post-doctoral experience is not required. A PhD (awarded or submitted by appointment date) in Biophysics, Bioimage analysis, Bacteriology, Cell Biology or other relevant field is desirable.
