FOCUS ON MICROSCOPY 2021
FOM2021 online, March 28 - 31, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to announce the next conference in the FOM series. FOM2021 will be held as an online edition from Sunday March 28 to Wednesday March 31, 2021. Please note that this will be in the week before Easter 2021. FOM2021 online will follow as much as feasible the format of the previous conferences.

Unfortunately, due to the continuing Covid-19 Pandemic, the conference cannot be held at the previously announced venue for 2021 (Porto, Portugal at the Centro de Congressos da Alfândega do Porto). However, we aim to organize a regular conference a year later from 10-13 April 2022 in Porto Portugal. We do hope that by that time the Pandemic has abated sufficiently to organize a “face-to-face” conference in a responsible way.

FOM2021 online will start on Sunday afternoon March 28, 2021. See for the preliminary program and further details the FOCUS ON MICROSCOPY website: www.focusonmicroscopy.org. FOM2021 online will be the continuation of a yearly conference series (since 1988) on the latest innovations and developments in mostly optical microscopy and their application in biology, medicine, and the material sciences.

We do hope to send a more detailed announcement with respect to the upcoming FOM2021 online conference in November this year.

Key subjects for the conference series are the theory and practice of 3D optical imaging, related 3D image processing, and especially developments in resolution and imaging modalities. Furthermore, it covers fluorescence labeling techniques for confocal and multi-photon 3D imaging of -live- biological specimens.

Typical topics of the upcoming FOM conference include:

• Theory and practice of confocal and multiphoton-excitation microscopy • Super-resolution/ nanoscopy imaging including: PSF engineering (4pi, SIM, STED), fluorescence activation/quenching, stochastic/centroid (PALM, STORM, GSDIM, SOFI and related techniques), TIRF • 3D and 4D live cell and tissue imaging • Adaptive optics for microscopy • Light sheet microscopy • Phase/interference based microscopies • OCT, holographic, endoscopy • Advanced fluorescence imaging/spectroscopy: FRET, FRAP, FLIM, FCS, SOFI • New fluorescent probes, proteins, quantum dots, single molecule imaging • Clearing and expansion techniques • Coherent non-linear microscopies: SHG, THG, SFG, CARS. • Multi-dimensional fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy imaging • Correlated microscopies, like light/electron • Laser manipulation and tracking, photo-activation • Fast acquisition, automated and high-content microscopy • 3D image processing and visualization of multidimensional data.
