DESCRIPTION
Ionscope is the leading manufacturer of Scanning Ion Conductance Microscopes
(SICM), a scanning probe technique used to obtain topographical and other
information, particularly suited to biological and soft specimens.
 
We currently have a vacancy for an Applications Scientist, responsible for both
pre- and post-sales applications support of ionscope’s customers. Based in our
modern UK headquarters in Melbourn, Cambridge, UK, we propose a challenging
position in a fast-moving environment. Reporting directly to the Senior
Applications
Scientist, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated,  ideally
with a
strong technical background in scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and/or a strong
background in biological/life-sciences.
 
This opening provides the opportunity to work on leading-edge techniques and
applications in nanotechnology, and to build strong scientific partnerships
with
ionscope’s customers, predominantly in the UK and Ireland but also with the
opportunity for some international travel.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Perform product demonstrations, training and imaging of customer samples at
our application laboratory or at customer sites
 Establish and maintain communication and relationships with customers
 Attend shows, conferences - making presentations and leading workshops
 Understand customer needs, gain customer feedback and improve customer
satisfaction
 Develop a strong understanding of competitive technology and products
 Provide technical and application advice to colleagues and customers
 Work closely with the sales team in driving instrumentation sales
 
REQUIREMENTS
 Expertise in microscopy techniques including scanning probe microscopy is
highly desirable  
 PhD in a subject close to scanning probe microscopy and/or a strong
background in life-sciences research
 Several years of post-University, multi-disciplinary experience is an
advantage
 Fluent in English language. Additional languages may be an advantage
