Axioplan power supply failure

Hello,
sorry for a question not directly confocal related.  We have a Zeiss Axioplan 2ie, about 7 years old.  Its power supply failed last night with an outpouring of smoke.  The most obvious damage is a 400V 150 uF capacitor that shows white powdery substance on its top (can't tell if this is ash or corrosion), signs of overheating and loss of oil.

Has anyone else experienced power supply failures with this model?

this scope is used about 1,000 hours/yr.  It is switched on with the first user of the day and switched off by the last user.

Thanks,
Glen

Hi Glen,

Yes. This happened to us a couple of years ago, also accompanied by smoke, which was a bit alarming. We were able to get a replacement power supply through Zeiss.

Kind regards,

Jacqui

Glen,

My Axiovert 200m's power supply did this two years ago.  It was 7 years old at the time. I ordered the part from Zeiss (~$750) and installed it myself.  At least on the vert 200m, it is a simple process.
