Hello All,
The power supply in the tower controller (ICU) of our Bio-Rad 1024 system has failed and needs to be replaced. As far as I can tell, the part details are: Model: Omega 400PFC Manufacturer: Coutant Lambda (UK) Number: MML400PFCX2 Code Number: 24D15/15E24/24H OEM Part Number: E00070 Does anyone have a spare or know of an equivalent replacement? We have a mothballed Bio-rad 1024 MRC with a laser with only a few hours on it (KRAr mixed gas). While we do not offer the microscope, we might be able to work something out for the two CPU's (we had the Windows 2000 upgrade) and the original OS/2 Warp. While I hate to see it go, it's worse to see it sit. We kept the service contract on it from day one (1999), and it was fully functional when we broke it down in 2003. Please let me know, we're not that far from you (Lincoln, Nebraska) and could probably work out delivery quite easily. Christian Elowsky |

Hi,
I wrote awhile back about a problem I was having with our new Olympus FV1000 and its permanent Precision Plastics environmental chamber. The problem was that water was evaporating from the dish and then condensing on the lid. This made DIC imaging impossible and since our fluorescent cultures have only 200-500 microns of media, it caused the tissue samples to dry out and die. Talking with some folks here we realized that the problem looked a lot like the plate was being heated higher than the air around it. So, I tried a number of things and this is what finally seemed to work. 1. I took the probe that measures temperature and raised it up off the stage. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3362/3215300553_130a95a068_b.jpg Yes, that is exactly what you think it is and yes it is taped to the stage. Obviously, I need to come up with a permanent solution. 2. I blocked off the air tube to the bottom of the Precision Plastics system with some cotton. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3502/3216151936_1f680d816c_b.jpg It's that little notch in the center with fluffy white stuff. 3. I cranked up the speed of the fan on the environmental system, check out the box inside this picture. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3502/3216151936_1f680d816c_b.jpg All in all, what seemed to work was adjusting several issues that MIGHT have been making the stage hotter than the air and causing evaporation in the dish.
