Position overview

Our team (ANU Applied Optics/BioOptics Lab under Dr Steve Lee) focuses on
capturing dynamic processes, such as trafficking and responses of blood
cells, including immune cells, in thrombosis and immunity challenges i.e.
infection and cancer. This position will be required to work in close
collaboration with imaging engineers, biochemists and immunologists. Basic
data analysis methods will be needed to analyse high resolution
multi-parametric imaging data sets. Research activities will focus on
multiphoton, holographic and lightsheet instruments, although other imaging
modalities (live cell/super-resolution) will likely be employed to provide
complementary information.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optical microscopy,
physiology, data analysis methods, and a keen interest in applying
cutting-edge optical imaging tools, developed at the Research School of
Engineering, to address specific biological questions related to research
programs at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. The fellow will
join a dynamic team of researchers (group leaders, PhD students, Postdocs)
and have unlimited access to state-of-art volumetric microscopy e.g. video
rate 3D multiphoton, lightsheet, holographic, oblique scanning; each
enabling real-time volumetric imaging in cells to organs.

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to
the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that
of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research,
applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in
health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into
practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the
Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin
School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health.
These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education
across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in
partnership with the health sector at local, national and international
levels.
