Dear all,

We have a 4-year old  Yokogawa CSU-X1 spinning disc (integrated by Andor) which stops moving without a clear reason, several times a week. It is back to normal after we restart CSU. It seems independent from the software and the computer (WinXP)  is set to never turn off the usb ports.
Andor is not very helpful about it, so I wonder, whether anyone experienced similar problems, and how did you solve them, if at all?

All best,
Ekaterina

Dear Ekaterina,

we've had more luck with our Yokogawa unit (and a very helpful Andor service
back in the Czech Republic).

The CSU-X1 is quite simple device (ours had had just a motor and a shutter)
and it should be able to spin happily even without any computer control. So
unless the Andor software is turning the motor off, the unit is probably
faulty.

You may try and let the unit spin with the PC off (or you've already tried
that)... It happened maybe twice that our unit failed to start, but it never
stopped unexpectedly.

Electrically (as far as I remember) the spinning unit accepts a control
voltage that sets the motor current and sends back a bunch of pulses every
revolution, the actual locked loop control is performed by one of the
control boxes. So you may be able to hook up an oscilloscope to find out
where the problem is (though it's definitely not easy, even if you have a
detailed manual).

I hope it's just a loose cable or dying power supply :-).

Best, zdenek
