Are you visiting? Probably too late for you to make travel arrangements (and "Pop" might not be at your Embassy), very good NCI hosted "Frontiers in Imaging" Symposium at NIH campus next Wed, 11/20 (Neuroscience Bldg, Bethesda), https://ncifrederick.cancer.gov/events/conferences/frontiers-light-microscopy/agenda Whoever chose SKY400 for the web page has excellent taste in science images! (... and for those of us who don't speak Italian: WASHINGTON AISE On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo Da Vinci, the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC hosts the photo exhibition "Leonardo and Pop Microscopy. Combining art and science towards the future ", organized in collaboration with the One Health Center of Excellence of the University of Florida in Gainesville and, in Italy, the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa. Leonardo is the brilliant mind that brought together Art and Science, the interdisciplinary man of the Renaissance par excellence. It embodies the creativity that has always distinguished Italy and, as Italians, it is our duty to keep this interdisciplinary culture alive , said the Italian ambassador to the United States, Armando Varricchio. "The spirit of Leonardo lives today in the work of over 15,000 Italian scientists and researchers working in the most advanced university centers and laboratories in the United States, in all disciplines from physics to biology, from mathematics to advanced manufacturing, from medicine to space", has continued. Pop Microscopy presents a series of extraordinary high-resolution images of cells, molecules, organs and tissues, revealing the beauty and art of the form and function of an otherwise hidden world. The works on display are microscope photographs, acquired by eminent scientists and Nobel Prize winners, such as Eric Betzig, Martin Chalfie and Stefan W. Hell, and published in prestigious scientific journals. The images were taken in the laboratories, then transformed into art, with a distinct pop art style. Exhibited for the first time at the Italian Institute of Technology in November 2015, this traveling exhibition was presented in various locations of the University of Florida between June 2018 and February 2019, involving various departments and research centers in a rich interdisciplinary dialogue on Science , Humanities and Art. Pop Microscopy was designed and developed at the Iit Nikon Imaging Center by Alberto Diaspro, director of the Nanophysics Department of the Italian Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Italian and worldwide scientists, and curated by Claudia Diaspro.
