An extensive assortment of equipment is currently available, including gel and blot imaging, confocal and widefield microscopes, super-resolution microscopy and Light Sheet microscopy. Furthermore, the facility has state of the art workstations for 3D-4D image analysis including commercial and open source analysis software, supporting science from project design, to acquisition, to processing and analysis. In order to meet the increasing needs of the microscopy facility, the Core seeks to hire a service-oriented, highly motivated individual to join its current team to aid in the operation of the core. This provides an exciting opportunity to get acquainted with diverse imaging techniques, in a multidisciplinary environment with researchers. It is an exciting position, and a unique career development opportunity, as the candidate will have the chance to be involved with a breadth of applications, in a dynamic environment offered in one of the finest research institutes. The ideal candidate will possess good organizational and analytical skills, be familiar with fluorescence microscopy techniques, and show a desire and ability to rapidly learn new skills. Major responsibilities will include performing routine laboratory maintenance tasks, operating sophisticated scientific instruments, and training and assisting users of the facility with instrument operation and data analysis. Responsibilities * Keep the laboratory clean and organized * Provide training and assistance to users on a variety of light microscopes’ operation including wide-field microscopes, confocal microscopes, whole slide scanning, high-content screening, and associated hardware and software * Provide training to users on basic image processing and analysis techniques * Perform troubleshooting, cleaning and maintenance of microscopes and weekly quality control checks to ensure optimal performance of microscopes * Maintain computer hardware and software infrastructure in the Core * Maintain billing, usage logs, lab inventory, order supplies, and general lab housekeeping * Document and organize experimental protocols * Other related lab duties as assigned by Director Qualifications * BSc in Biology, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or other Science major, at least 2 years of experience in microscopy use. Master's degree or higher preferred * Solid experience in light microscopy and an understanding of fundamentals of image processing, such as ImageJ * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of people. * Strong attention to details * Must be reliable and organized, ability to complete multiple projects * An enthusiastic approach to teaching microscopy, problem solving and a desire and passion for learning, eager to explore new techniques in microscopy * Ability to work in a team environment led by the Director.
