Dear Joe,

Firstly, Carl Zeiss still offer support and service (on a "best effort"
basis) for the MRC-1024 range of LSMs.

The error you report does not necessarily mean you have a problem with your
laser board, any break in the H8 communication chain will generate this
error message; as an example, if you disconnect the serial cable from the
computer and try to start LaserSharp (real hardware mode) you will get the
same error.  Therefore there may be a problem somewhere else in the comms
chain.

Additionally, this error is not connected to the VIS board, therefore
replacing this will not resolve the problem.

We will contact you directly to offer assistance in fault finding the
likely cause and then suggest a plan of action.

We have an old MRC 1024 that recently has stopped functioning. It gives the

error "Firmware cannot be downloaded to laser board". Has anyone else
experienced a problem like this or have any old vis & laser boards sitting
around?
