Hello Everyone:

I am pleased to announce- From 3D Light to 3D Electron Microscopy:
Correlative Microscopy for the Life Sciences
The Flanders Institute of Biotechnology (VIB), in collaboration with Zeiss,
is organizing a meeting on 3D correlative light and electron microscopy for
the life sciences.

Because life happens in 3 dimensions it is crucial for scientists to
visualize biological structures within their context. 3D electron microscopy
offers the possibility to obtain high resolution data sets from which
scientists can explore ultrastructural information in three dimensions.
Automated field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) is a giant
step forward in the process of obtaining 3D volume information at nm resolution.

This scientific meeting and workshop will focus on the use of 3D SEM in life
sciences and the recent developments in CLEM. There will be 2 keynote
lectures by experts in biological imaging (Professor Harald Hess of Janeila
farms HHMI and Professor Mark Ellisman of UCSD, NCMIR) scientific sessions
lead by by world leaders in the field (Marco Cantoni, Lucy Collinson, Pascal
Fua, Yannick Schwab and Cristel Genoud), workshops and round table
discussions. The participants will have the opportunity to present their
work as a poster or selected oral presentation.

Registration is free for academic applicants, but strictly limited to 100
participants. You can register at http://www.zeiss.com/3DEM.

Users of the Gatan 3View serial block face sectioning system should also
note the 3View satellite symposium and users group following the main
meeting. More details and registration information can be found at
http://www.vib.be/en/news/Pages/3View-Users-Group-Meeting-and-Symposium.aspx

We look forward to welcoming scientists interested in this emerging field to
Ghent next March

Best wishes and happy holidays to all.

Chris
