Hi all,

This Monday is the Application deadline for the 17th UBC Live-Cell Course.

I know that the Course doesn't start for almost 3 months but a lot has to happen before then.

Of course, successful applicants have to arrange for travel, accommodations and tuition. But beyond that, we discovered years ago that students often found it difficult to carry out live-cells experiments in a strange lab on unfamiliar equipment if they were just left to themselves. To overcome this problem, we group applicants with others sharing similar interests and give each group an experienced Faculty Advisor. Together they can start planning their live-cell experiments well before they arrive in Vancouver. This way, they can be sure that the correct cell type, dye and microscope etc. are available when they need them.

In addition, there are also Pre-Course reading assignments and even homework study questions. All these preparations greatly increase student success.

All this being said, we often do accept later applications but only if the applicants fit well into the Groups that we have already set up.

So if you want to attend, it is good to get your Application in early, even if you are still working out the financing details.

Just go to

http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/2012/public.php?page=apply

and fill out the form, including the section describing your funding situation.

You can find a description of the Course at

http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/2012/public.php?page=overview

Or look up some of our alumnae at

http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/2012/public.php?page=alumni

and see if you can find anyone you know. Then you can ask them how it went.

It is always amazing to me to see how many of them later become major contributors to this Confocal Net.

Hope to see you in June!
