Hello to all,

My name is Gautier Papon and I am the CEO of Argolight. We provide stable non-bleaching calibration/monitoring slide for fluorescent microscopes.

I know our products have been discussed in this list before, and I can safely say the common point of view is that they are great products but expensive ones. So we are trying something new, a 1500€ / $1600 Argolight slide, it has the same stability and precision than our normal slides, patterns are just a bit simpler.

As a small company, this price point is dangerous for us, so we need your support : we need you to tell us that if we produce a slide at this price you will be interested in it.

If you are interested, or want to know more about it, please go to  : http://argolight.com/argo-check/ where you will find all the slide specifications and information about this idea.

We thank you for your interest and look forward to our future collaboration. Please share this mail or the page with whoever you think may be interested.

Thank you & best regards,
Gautier Papon

Re: Discount offer : Argolight fluorescent slides - COMMERCIAL

Hello Dr Papon, I would like to support your company, but I still think that $1600 is a little expensive for a slide. Does the slide come with a warranty for usage; a lifetime in years, or perhaps a projected lifetime in usage hours? Will it work for 2Photon? What if I destroy it with my 2P system?

Thanks,

Brian Armstrong PhD

Hello Dr. Armstrong,

Thank you for your feedback, so yes the slide comes with the warranty of Argolight slide, meaning 5 years, to quote the our contracts :

  1.

Argolight warranties that under normal use, defined in both General terms, Conditions of sales and documentation given with the product, Argolight’s slides demonstrate, for the duration of the warranty, a series of patterns:

     *   -  whose dimensions are defined with a precision of +/- 50nm in X-Y and +/- 100 nm in the Z directions.

     *   -  whose spectra for a given illumination settings (wavelength, light flux...) are identical in shape to any described similar part of the patterns.

Argolight declares that under specific illumination configurations, fluorescent properties of slides may change during exposure time. Argolight warranties that after a resting time without illumination, from a few seconds to several hours depending on the dose and intensity, fluorescence properties regain their original state.

Argolight warranties that these behaviours, including rate of fluorescence decrease and resting time to full recovery, are identical for a given illumination setting.

However, this behaviour occurs under illumination configurations that are on the verge of the normal use. By using such configurations, the user is considered aware of the risk of damaging the slide in case of over-exposure.

Yes it does work with 2photon, you just have to respect the usage guide lines and use it with light flux below 100 GW/Cm^2.

Best regards,
Gautier Papon

Dear Gautier,

What are the axial dimensions of the new Argo-check pattern? Does it have any 3D structure or is it strictly a 2D pattern?

Hello Listers and Core Managers:

My user asks to help him to recover images/data off his 120GB WD external
hard drive. I transferred the drive to another USB enclosure, and It still spins for ~30s
producing repetitive clicking sound (I assume from moving the reading head) and
 then shuts off.

I googled quite many data recovery services, even WD provides a list of 25.

Please advise/share your experience with data recovery services. The first
preference is the recovery reliability, and the second - reasonable price
(several hundred $ is reasonable, several thousand is too much).

Thanks,
Arvydas

Arvydas,

I used a service about 3 years ago to recover data from an internal hard drive from a MAC that got soaked in a flood and had visible damage to the drive! The service was:

Neil Brian Hernandez

[hidden email]

Recovery Process Manager

US/International: +1 212 594.5946 | Canada: +1 416 619.5252

They charged $1700 and I got back probably 98% of the data.

If the drive is mechanically non-functional then they will need to take the
drive apart and access the platters directly. This will be expensive, on
the order of $1000+ probably, unless you can find a very good deal
somewhere. I always remind users that it is cheaper to buy a spare backup
drive now for $100 than to pay for data recovery later.
