Dear All,

Earlier Zeiss was having a motorized/manual changer from Halogen lamp to T-PMT and vice-versa in their LSM700 confocal. In LSM800 they offer ESID where there is no need for change. What are the pros and cons?

Hello,
The ESID is a cost effective alternative to using a full T-PMT. Yes, it
integrates the brightfield light source and the T-PMT detector but the
savings is not significant (depending upon how tight of budget you have).

Also, image quality is somewhat sample dependent and T-PMT images will
always look better.

I don't know if Zeiss has introduced a new version of ESID, but the ones
that came out with the LS800 (back in 2015) were not giving the same image
quality as that of a standard T-PMT.

Dear Sripad,

Thanks. I do believe that T-PMT is better than ESID. The vendor says they
can offer either of them at the same price.
