Dear list,

Entry-level position for Technical / Scientific Staff at the Imaging Core Facility (IMCF) of the Biozentrum / University of Basel

We are offering a position for a young scientist who wants to enter the fascinating field of modern high-end light microscopy. The candidate will support the Biozentrum Imaging Core Facility (IMCF) by
(i) maintaining state of the art wide-field, confocal, and super-resolution microscopes,
(ii) training users to handle microscopes and image analysis, as well as
(iii) participating in the teaching program of the IMCF.

The position offers an ideal entry point into working in a microscopy facility environment. It is limited to two years but can be prolonged up to five years. The preferred starting date is Spring 2014 but can be negotiated.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a technical or research background who combines solid technical expertise with strong communication skills.
Suitable candidates are expected to have practical experience in at least two or more of the following fields: Optics, light microscopy techniques (wide-field and/or confocal), live cell imaging, image processing, etc. Strong computing and software skills as well as a good command of English are a must. The ideal candidate should be willing to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and share an interest in expanding his/her knowledge in new microscopy techniques.

The Biozentrum offers cutting-edge research infrastructure, a highly international environment, and excellent working conditions. Applications (ideally in electronic form), including CV, list of publications and a short summary of past microscopy experience with a list of microscope systems and software, should be addressed to Oliver Biehlmaier, Biozentrum, Klingelbergstrasse 50, 4056 Basel, Switzerland ([hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]>).
