Functional Optical Imaging 2011

Hosted by the Institute of Biophysics, Imaging and Optical Science (IBIOS)

University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China.

3rd-4th December 2011

The University of Nottingham's Institute of Biophysics, Imaging and Optical Science is pleased to announce our second conference in the Functional Optical Imaging series - FOI '11.

In the summer of 2009 we held the inaugural IBIOS conference on Functional Optical Imaging (FOI '09) at the University of Nottingham's UK campus. This proved very popular with participants and has led to lasting collaborations. It was felt opportune to hold the second conference at the University of Nottingham's China Campus in Ningbo in part recognition of the international vision of our own University but more importantly to acknowledge the increasingly important role of bio-imaging research in the Far East. Functional imaging is a highly interdisciplinary area bringing together biologists, chemists, physicists and engineers and our Institute of Biophysics, Imaging and Optical Science was established in 2007 to bring together scientists in these disciplines. We are fortunate to have attracted an extremely eminent range of speakers across many disciplines who will provide exciting visions of their own research which we expect to stimulate lively discussions leading to new research directions.

Registration is now open! Please join us in China for what will be an informative and enjoyable meeting.

Papers are sought from authors in all areas related to the Functional Optical Imaging agenda, including the areas of:

*          New Imaging Techniques

*          Super Resolution

*          Three Dimensional Imaging

*          Label Free Imaging

*          Optical Tweezers and Sample Manipulation

*          Optical Cell Modification

*          Cell Signalling

*          Applications of Microscopy to Neuroscience, Cardiology and Membrane Biophysics

*          New Technologies

*          Biomedical Sensing and Screening

The conference proceedings will appear in CD form, and we intend to publish a book of selected papers. Extended papers will be invited for publication.

Ningbo is located in Zhejiang Province on the south shore of Hangzhou Bay opposite Shanghai and is one of the busiest ports in China and among the largest ports in the world. It is two hours by train from Hangzhou and three and a half hours by train from Shanghai, with a modern airport offering direct connections to all major cities in China, including Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
