Hi all,
(This may have been sent already but I have not received my
"copy" and may have used the old BUFFALO address. If it is a
repeat, I apologize. JP)
Every June for the past thirteen years, the University of British
Columbia has found (a lot of!) room for us to hold the "3D
Live-Cell" course. In spite of the sequellae of Wall Street's
malfeasance, the number of students interested in learning how to do
3D microscopy on living cells continues to increase.
As long as the manufacturer's continue to offer their
support, we will continue for at least one more year.
If you haven't heard of the UBC Live-Cell course before, please
go to
http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/2009/public.php?page=brochure (There
is a PDF you can download or just read the page.)
or perhaps check out the alumni at
http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/alumni.htm to see if there is
anyone you know.
There will be some new faces on the faculty this year. Here is
the new list.
Holly Aaron
Stephen Adams
Mark Cannell
Steve Cody
Anda Cornea
Ping Chin Cheng
Jurek Dobrucki
Turan Erdogon
Hans Gerritsen

Hope to see you in Vancouver, next June.

Fourteenth Annual INTERNATIONAL 12-Day Short Course on 3D
Microscopy of Living Cells, June 13 - 25, 2009 (Pre-course: June
13)
Thirteenth, Post-course Workshop on 3D Image
Processing, June 27 -29
Organized by Prof. James Pawley, (University of Wisconsin-Madison) in association with the Departments of Pharmacology and Physiology and the Brain Research Centre, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada DATES Applications must be received
by

due Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Live-cell Course ends,

3D Image Processing Course,
APPLICATIONS DUE BY MARCH 15, 2009
APPLICATIONS Applicants must complete a questionnaire on the web to assess
knowledge level, field of interest and proposed personal, live-cell,
project. But don't let this put you off: if you plan to use 3D
microscopy on living cells, we can usually find a way to make it
work.
Enrollment will be limited to about 36 participants (exact number
depends on number of 3D Systems available). Selection will be
made on the basis of background and perceived need. Those
without previous LM experience will be provided with access to basic
texts to read before the course begins. Application forms may be
down-loaded from the WWW site at
http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/2009/public.php?page=apply, or
obtained from:
Prof. James B.
Pawley,
Room 223, Zoology Research
Building,
250 N. Mills Street, Madison, WI,
53706
Additional information is available from: http://www.3dcourse.ubc.ca/2009/ and links.
We expect to have at least 13, 3D microscope workstations for
student use and there will be an international faculty of more than
20.
Application deadlines: Application forms should be received for screening by March 16,
2009. Successful applicants will be notified by April 1, and a deposit
of 50% must be received by April 15, 2009. In general, refunds
of the deposit will only be possible if someone on the waiting list
can take your place but this has not been a problem in previous
years. The remaining balance is due before Registration.
Pre-Course Tuition (1/2 day Basic Optical
principles)
3D Live-cell Course Tuition (includes lunches, 2 big snacks each
day and 3 dinners, and the
NEW Third Edition of the Handbook of Biological Confocal
Microscopy):
3D IP Workshop Tuition (includes lunches, snacks, final
dinner):
Room/board about $50/day (US) depending on room type.
I hope that this includes all of the information that you need, but if not, please get back to me. Jim Pawley

Hi Jim
The course web site seems to be down or broken. Cheers Mark Pawley wrote: > Hi all, > > (This may have been sent already but I have not received my "copy" and > may have used the old BUFFALO address.
