Towards Outstanding Research and Training in Tumour Biology at iMM

CALL FOR A SENIOR TECHNICIAN

Work Plan
iMM is heading a collaborative network with Institut Curie (France) and
DFKZ (Germany) to stimulate scientific and technological exchanges. The
network is focused in 4 main sub-areas: Cancer Stem Cells; Cancer Cell
Signalling; Tumour Angiogenesis; Cancer Invasion and Metastasis. iMM is
looking for a highly motivated senior technician to implement novel imaging
processing and data analysis methodologies. The senior technician will be
integrated in a multi-disciplinary team working in close proximity with
iMM’s Bioimaging Facility, and in collaboration with several different
groups within iMM to tackle challenging quantitative analysis approaches in
large microscopy image datasets. The senior technician will be travelling
to DFKZ and Institut Curie for short-term exchanges to acquire new
competences in the field of image analysis and processing.

Candidate’s Profile:
- PhD in physics, biology or equivalent.
- Strong experience in image processing and analysis.
- Wide expertise in statistical analysis.
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Excellent scientific programing capabilities in Matlab, Python, C++ or
Java.
- Autonomy and capacity to solve difficult tasks.
- Excellent interaction and communication skills with individuals with
diverse backgrounds.

Start Date and Duration:
The contract is predicted to start on January, 2016, following the duration
of the project (the project has a total duration of 36 months).

Monthly Salary and Legislation:
Approximate annual salary package of 26.842,00€ in accordance to iMM’s
Career By-Law and Assessment Regulations. The annual salary package include
all charges, with gross salary and other allowances under the contract,
work accident insurance and all taxes due according to Portuguese Labour
Law. Depending on the candidate’s experience, a higher salary can be
negotiated according to the amount available in the Project.

After evaluation of all applications, around 4 candidates will be selected
to interview (50%).

Sounds interesting, but why is a PhD required for a position which is classified as Technician?
