Dear Claire:
Because of it's commercial development, there are not really any
"refereed journal publications" on this subject, but there are quite a
few trade journal articles. For instance, you can refer to any of the
articles on our website:
http://www.semrock.com/articles.htm. The
article entitled "Optical Filters Impact Fluorescence Fidelity" from the
November 2003 issue of Biophotonics is probably the earliest and most
comprehensive single reference, if you are looking for just one.
There are also patents in the patent literature (such as our original
U.S. Pat. No. 6,809,859), but my guess is you are looking for something
to which you can refer others to for further reading.
You will also find bits and pieces a few other places (such as in Jim
Pawley's book "Handbook of Biological Confocal Microscopy," 3rd ed.).
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
NOTE: This response should not be considered a commercial endorsement
-- I am merely pointing to further reading material as requested by
Clair Brown.
Thank you.

Subject: Hard Coated Filter Reference
I'm writing an article about fluorescence microscopy and I'm looking for
a reference for the development of hard coated optical filters like the
Semrock Brightline and the Chroma ET series.
Any suggestions would be great.
Sincerely,
Claire
