Dear All-

It’s that time of year again— planning for the Annual OME User Meeting has
begun.  After lots of discussion, we’ve decided to give the team at
Institut Pasteur a rest…. And hold the meeting in Dundee!  Dates are May 31
– June 1.  We are working on plans for development meetings for June 2-4.
More about that in the next week.

You might be thinking: "Wait, Dundee?!?!?!  Why would I come to… Dundee.
After 10 years in Paris,… Dundee?!?!?!?! “

Well, a few reasons:

1.  We really do need to give the Pasteur team a rest.  They have dutifully
organised the meeting for the last 10 years, and we are hugely thankful for
everything they have done, but they are incredibly busy this year, and we
need to respect that.

2.  OME’s funding is not infinite, and must ensure our funding goes as far
as possible.  Frankly, not having to fund the travel of everyone associated
with OME to Paris means we have more money to fund software development.

3.  Dundee is in Scotland, and as a few of you know, the end of May and
beginning of June are (usually!) absolutely gorgeous in Scotland.  No one
can guarantee anything about the weather this far north, but it’s your best
chance to see Scotland at its finest.

4.  Dundee is pretty cool.  Ok, it’s not Paris, so your
partners/spouses/friends/bosses/kids won’t pine to come with you— but they
should!!!  Take a look at
http://metro.co.uk/2014/04/17/12-reasons-dundee-is-the-best-city-in-the-uk-4700950/.
Grand Theft Auto, Frankenstein, Aspirin, Dennis the Menace, and of course
OME are all from Dundee.  (yeah, I know, still not Paris).

5.  There are direct flights to Edinburgh from all major European hubs on
discount airlines, good train connections from around the UK, and direct
flights from several US East Coast airports.  There’s good train and bus
transport from Edinburgh to Dundee and we are looking to coordinate
transfers from Edinburgh airport to Dundee (more info coming).  For
reference, it takes about as long to get from Edinburgh airport to Dundee
as from CDG into the centre of Paris.  Glasgow is only about 15-20 min
farther away than Edinburgh.

6.  Food and wine here are excellent— really.  And the people are amazing.
Whisky is pretty awesome, too.

7.  Best of all, we are working on another great programme, and it should
be a terrific meeting, and a great chance to discuss what the community is
doing, and where we are all going together.

So you should really think about joining us, showing off your cool work on
imaging, and sharing your ideas on how this community needs to evolve.
We’ll follow shortly with info about hotels, transport, programme, etc.

Looking forward to see you in a few months… here!!

Cheers,

Jason
