Dear list,

it is with immense pleasure that we announce the immediate availability
of the Huygens Remote Manager version 2.0!

The Huygens Remote Manager is an open-source, efficient, multi-user
web-based interface to the Huygens software (http://www.svi.nl) for
parallel batch deconvolutions. More information on the HRM can be found
on the project website (http://huygens-rm.org) in the "About" section:
http://huygens-rm.org/home/?q=node/22

HRM 2.0 is a major upgrade from the previous stable release, HRM 1.2.3.
You can find the 1.2.3-to-2.0 changelog here:
http://huygens-rm.org/home/?q=node/27 (also with a link to the detailed
subversion log).

Those of you who are familiar with the HRM, will notice the the brand
new HRM website, with extended installation and (coming soon!) usage
instructions: the URL hasn't changed, so no need to update your
bookmarks: http://huygens-rm.org.

Although the user manual (pdf) has not yet been updated to version 2.0,
the HRM internal help is up-to-date: please refer to that for the time
being (the manual is in the works!)

If you are updating from a previous version of the HRM, please follow
the update instructions at http://huygens-rm.org/home/?q=node/5. There
are a few things to pay attention to when updating.

Extended installation instructions (in particular for the prerequisites)
can be found here: http://huygens-rm.org/home/?q=node/6.

If you are way too impatient, you can grab your copy of the new HRM
right away: http://huygens-rm.org/home/?q=node/4; Otherwise, keep
reading for some information of what is new in this release of the HRM.

Many of the changes in the new HRM were under the hood: for instance,
one great change that is completely transparent to you but that will
give us the potential for great extensibility of the HRM is the
transition to using templates for the communication between the HRM and
Huygens Core. This comes to a little price: HRM 2.0 requires at lest
Huygens Core v3.7.1-p2 to work. Older versions of Hucore will not work,
sorry. You can download the Huygens software from here:
http://www.svi.nl/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=6

One great new (visible!) user feature is the capability to override HRM
parameters with values read from file metadata at runtime. This will
allow jobs to adapt to (slightly) changing file parameters.

The file manager has been extended to be much more informative, on one
hand to make it easier to visualize which parameters have been actually
used in case parsing of file metadata was allowed, but also to give more
information about the jobs in general.

A brand new SNR estimator has been added along with the original one
that is still used by default; but the new one can and should be tried
out, and feedback can be sent back to us for improvement!

We reorganized the location of configuration files and extended the hrmd
daemon to allow for more usage flexibility: see the installation
instructions for additional information on this.

We even documented the whole code! We are in a continuous process of
refactoring, that will continue over the next versions; the current API
can be accessed here: http://api.huygens-rm.org/html/

Another reason for updating to the HRM 2.0 is that we tried to increase
the security of the HRM quite a bit.

I hope you will appreciate the new HRM release.
