Hydroxystilbamidine/FluoroGold

Hello All,

Can anyone with experience using hydroxystilbamidine/FluoroGold as a retrograde neuronal tracer comment on how well it is excited using a 405nm diode laser?
There is plenty of information on excitation and emission maxima, but a full spectral profile seems elusive. If anyone can comment on how the 405nm excitation varies as a function
of the media and/or mounting pH that would be fantastic as well.

Thanks very much.
Cheers

Re: Hydroxystilbamidine/FluoroGold

Dear Farid--

I'm looking back at my 1991 paper on  hydroxystilbamidine and it looks
as if it ought to be quite excitable by 405 nm at pH 9.  However, it
looks only minimally excitable at pH 5.  My recollection is that others
have published imaging hydroxystilbamidine using 405 nm excitation but I
don't know the references off the top of my head.

Good luck!
