Dear Core Managers and staff (and all those interested in facility management)

You are all invited to the II Core Management Workshop, that will take place September 16-17, 2013, at the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal.

Following the success of last year’s Core Management Workshop in Lisbon, attendants felt the need to continue a yearly discussion on the issues that most concern facility managers. The University of Algarve volunteered to host the II workshop. From daily problems to outlining best practices, from routine quality control to establishing standard metrics, from staff management to defining career paths, from resource optimization to financial models, you name it! Any issue that you wish to bring and see discussed is naturally welcome. And it’s not just about cytometry, as attendants, speakers, and discussions will cover all scientific and technological facilities (flow, imaging, genomics, proteomics, histology, animal house, etc). This year, the list of guest speakers is:

Tim Bushnell - University of Rochester, USA
Jussi Helppi - Max Plank (MPI-CBG), Germany
Fernando Peláez - CNIO, Spain
Peter Lopez - NYU, USA
Ricardo Miguéis - FCT, Portugal
Herbert Auer - IRB, Spain
Nuno Moreno - IGC, Portugal

The intention is to maintain the same informal atmosphere as the first workshop, in this case again next to a beach scenery, warm weather and enough excuses to eat and drink (as if we needed one!) while we discuss science, technology and management. For an informal setting, it must remain relatively small, meaning that the number of registrants will be limited, so please register as soon as possible. If you wish to register, follow the “Applications Now Open!” link on the top of the page:http://uic.igc.gulbenkian.pt/coreworkshopII.htm, where you can find more information on the venue.

If you have any questions feel free to email me ([hidden email]).
Looking forward to seeing you in sunny Algarve.
