To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** ISAC is a member-driven society that wants to meet the needs of all cytometrists. Leaders and staff of Shared Resource Labs (SRLs) or core facilities form a significant part of the Society. Throughout 2013 ISAC leadership has reached out to SRL scientists through surveys, the core managers' forum at CYTO 2013 and many group and one-on-one conversations to explore how ISAC can help SRLs in their day-to-day work and how SRLs can aid ISAC's mission. Now is the time for ISAC to act, and it is. The society is introducing a number of programs and services to better serve its members who are Shared Resource Lab managers and staff including: ISAC SRL Leadership Development Program The ISAC SRL Leadership Development program is designed to enhance and develop the next generation of emerging leaders in SRL (Shared Resource Lab) operations who will also help further the field of cytometry. New SRL managers with less than three years of experience as manager and deputy or assistant SRL managers with at least 3 years of experience are eligible to apply. This five-year program provides ISAC SRL Emerging Leaders with a complimentary membership in the Society, electronic subscription to Cytometry Part A, and complimentary registration and partial travel funds to attend the Society's annual conference CYTO as well as eligibility for one-time funding of mentored training. In addition, ISAC SRL Emerging Leaders are given the opportunity to be an integral part of the Society through committee memberships, advisory boards, and creating educational material to further support the goals of ISAC. Being chosen an ISAC Emerging Leader is an indication that you are recognized for your leadership potential, technical expertise and ability to achieve your career goals. For more information, visit: http://isac-net.org/ISAC-Cytometry/ISAC-SRL-Emerging-Leaders-Program.aspx Expanded Education Aimed at SRL Directors and Staff at CYTO 2014 CYTO 2014: Cytometry Advancing Science, the 29th Congress of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry, will feature a specific SRL track with tutorials, workshops, the core managers' forum and other sessions that will explore topics of interest to SRL staff and scientists. There is also an abstract category for "Facilities management" which will be used to fill parallel sessions. Please consider submitting your work in this category. For more information about CYTO such as a preliminary program and to access the abstract system, please visit: http://cytoconference.org/2014/Home.aspx SRL Staff Travel Awards to CYTO 2014 ISAC has established a fund for Shared Resource Lab (SRL) or core staff whose abstracts have been approved for either oral or poster presentation at the CYTO 2014 Conference and who require financial aid to attend. Interested SRL staff should complete the online award application available on the abstract submission site. ISAC members (either active or registering for the CYTO Conference) who are staff in a SRL (but not core facility directors or managers) are eligible to apply for this award. The value of the SRL Travel Award is at the discretion of the Membership Services Committee but will not exceed $1,000 USD. SRL staff who are not members of ISAC and who are successful in their travel award application will automatically become members of ISAC but will not receive the journal Cytometry Part A. The option to submit a SRL Travel Award Application is provided on the abstract submission site. For more information, visit: http://cytoconference.org/2014/Home.aspx Reduced CYTO 2014 Registration Fee for SRL Staff This year, junior SRL staff members who work in a lab directed by an ISAC member may register for CYTO 2014 at the reduced SRL staff rate of $200. The junior staff member will be required to provide the name and email address of the SRL director or manager on the registration form so that ISAC can confirm the manager is a current ISAC member. This fee includes membership to ISAC for one year but does not include access to the journal Cytometry Part A. To register for CYTO 2014, visit: http://cytoconference.org/2014/Registration.aspx And More to Come! In 2014 please be on the lookout for more information about SRL education on CYTO U, ISAC's soon-to-launch elearning portal, and the ISAC Affiliated SRL Program.
