A postdoctoral position is immediately available at the Imaging Unit of the Department of Experimental Oncology (DEO) at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO, Milan), to develop novel image analysis solutions to extract quantitative information from optical microscopy experiments. The selected candidate will actively collaborate with the Imaging Unit staff and DEO scientists to implement image analysis pipelines for wide-field, confocal and super-resolution data, in the context of cancer research. This will include the application of machine learning and deep learning algorithms to multidimensional image analysis.
A PhD in computer science, physics or a related field, programming experience in Python or Matlab or ImageJ Macro and an interest in bio-imaging are required. Previous research experience related to optics or biology, experience with Linux environments and bioinformatics/statistics tools (e.g., R) are considered an advantage. Fluency in English is mandatory.
The Imaging Unit at DEO is equipped with state of the art resources including wide-field and confocal, total internal reflection (TIRF), high content, time-lapse microscopy and super resolution microscopy. DEO is the research wing of IEO and is focused on the deep understanding of cancer-associated molecular mechanisms, with ~400 scientists and 21 PIs with complementary expertise in the fields of cancer biology, immunology/immunotherapy, omics sciences, cell signalling, cancer models, structural biology and computational biology.
