The BIOP enables access to state-of-the-art light microscopes for scientists within and outside the School, thus supporting the research community and helping answer biological questions with state-of-the-art light microscopes and image processing workflows. The BIOP is responsible for training users and giving them advice on light microscopy methods, as well as for maintaining instruments. The BIOP is equipped with state-of-the-art microscopes such as widefield fluorescence microscopes, point scanning confocal microscopes and multi-beam scanning microscopes. Newly emerging technologies like Stimulated Emissions depletion (STED), Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) and point localization based approaches (STORM, PALM) are also offered. Further information regarding the platform including the detailed list of equipment can be found under: http://biop.epfl.ch/ The person filling this position will extend the existing team in the field of image processing and image analysis. The postholder will in particular be responsible to install, maintain and support an image database (OMERO) for EPFL users. This will include interaction and support of end users, as well as development and implementation of long-term image data management strategies. The suitable candidate is expected to have a university degree (preferably master or higher) in a related area. Being able to understand and explain underlying principles of image processing in the biology is a must. Proven programming experience in relevant languages like (e.g. Python, Java) and knowledge in deep-learning approaches for life sciences, as well as experience with databases and their management is an asset.
