Imaging Facility Manager (111699)


Grade 7: Salary in the range £29,837 - £36,661 per annum




We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Imaging Facility Manager to participate in organising and running an imaging facility at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford. The facility manager will undertake the day-to-day running of the unit, provide services and be responsible for training the users of imaging equipment at the Kennedy Institute.


Responsibilities will include planning and managing a musculoskeletal imaging service for in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo samples whilst administrating the usage of imaging equipment in the Kennedy Institute. You will troubleshoot problems with equipment and provide maintenance and calibration of microscopes and other equipment. Duties will also include providing relevant advice and training on theory and practical applications of each instrument to PhD students, Postdocs and PIs. You will also maintain accurate and up-to-date records of findings and provide written reports of results and methods of imaging experiments to PIs for publication.



You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a cell biology field and have the ability to organise work with minimal supervision and to clearly present results to multidisciplinary audiences. You will have experience in the principles of optical microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy and fluorescence microscopy. You will also have experience in live cell imaging, immunofluorescence staining and imaging analysis software, such as Volocity and Imaris. Excellent IT skills and attention to detail are also essential as is the ability to prioritise work in response to deadlines. Knowledge of high content screening, cell migration assays, molecular biology and protein purification would be desirable.

This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 12 months in the first instance.
