A position is available immediately for a post-doctoral Research Associate to build and maintain cutting-edge and novel optical microscope systems for life science applications in a new Imaging Facility.  We are looking for a person with experience in optical instrumentation, microscope development, and associated software-hardware interfacing. This is a full time position with responsibilities in development and maintenance of the imaging core facility, as well as the potential to participate in research projects with leading faculty in fields at the interface of physics, engineering, and biology. The candidate will manage the imaging facility and oversee shared equipment (including an existing PerkinElmer confocal spinning disk system and cell culture room), be involved in building the latest generation microscope systems (including a three-photon and lightsheet microscope), train users in image acquisition and analysis software, assist with image analysis, collaborate with faculty on research projects, monitor equipment performance, perform routine maintenance, and assist with instrument repairs.

The successful candidate will have the interpersonal skills necessary to work with a large number of people, including strong written and verbal communication skills, and must work well in teams to build and integrate microscope systems. Additional desirable attributes include creative problem solving abilities (our instruments will be custom built and may need to be adapted for specific imaging conditions), ability to work independently, computer hardware/interfacing skills, practical experience working with imaging set ups for biomedical applications, and experience with building optical set-ups and microscopes.

The candidate should ideally have a PhD in Physics, Optics, Engineering or other related fields, and must be a highly motivated, independent worker willing to develop intellectual and practical skills. Salary is highly competitive, negotiable and commensurate with qualifications. Fringe benefits offered. Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate is identified.
