Salary: £27,183 - £35,469

A position (for 3 years in the first instance) is available for an
imaging specialist who will manage an established multi-user imaging
facility in the Department of Zoology University of Cambridge (UK),
funded by The Wellcome Trust. The postholder will work with research
groups investigating cellular events including axon guidance, cell
migration, cell polarisation, vesicle trafficking, calcium signalling
and DNA replication and repair.

The facility supports 11 research groups and is equipped with:

• Two Leica SP5 AOBS-based confocal systems; one with tandem scanner,
environmental chamber and an Eppendorf micromanipulation and injection
system;
• Leica SP1 multi-line point scanning confocal;
• Spinning disk (CSU-10) confocal system with a MicroPoint cell ablation system;
• Leica DMIRBE wide field system and Leica MZ 16 fluorescence stereoscope,.

Image analysis tasks in the Facility are supported by state-of-the-art
computers, equipped with Amira, Volocity and Huygens Pro software.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring optimal
working conditions for confocal microscopy and supporting computer
facilities. She/he will take an active, collaborative part in research
projects by pursuing advanced fluorescence microscopy applications,
such as time lapse, particle tracking, deconvolution, FRAP and FRET,
and by developing new methods for effective data handling and
analysis. This will demand enthusiasm for IT, sustained cutting-edge
knowledge of fluorescence microscopy and imaging and good
communications skills.  Her/his contributions will also include, but
will not be limited to, planning and executing complex experiments and
image analysis algorithms, equipment building, and computer
programming.

The Department provides an excellent environment for someone with a
keen interest in partaking in individual projects with research groups
as well as providing routine support for image acquisition and
analysis tasks.  Significant contributions to concrete projects will
lead to co-authorship in high-quality papers.

Applicants should have a B.Sc., M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Information
Technology (IT), Physics, Engineering or Biology and must have
understanding and experience of IT.
