The McGill University Life Sciences Complex Imaging Facility is holding the
second annual Systems Biology group Introduction to Light Microscopy
Course December 7-9, 2010 lectures from 9AM-12:30PM and hands-on from 2PM-6PM.
The course will cover the following:
Day 1 Topics will include:
Light Matter Interactions
Simple lenses, transmitted light optical train, Köhler illumination
Transmitted Light Contrasting Techniques: Dyes, Darkfield, Phase,
Polarization, DIC
Fixed Immuno-fluorescent Sample Preparation
Day 2 Topics will include:
Digital Images, Resolution and Sampling Frequency
Objective Lenses, Aberrations and Aberration Corrections
Fluorescence, Fluorescence Dyes
The Fluorescence Microscope Optical Train
Light Sources and Detectors
Day 3 Topics will include:
Quantitative Imaging
Live Cell Microscopy
3D Imaging: Wide-field deconvolution
confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM)
spinning disk (SD-CM)
structured illumination, multi-photon
TIRF microscopy
Co-localization and Spectral Unmixing
