Hi all,

I’ve been using the “split surfaces” tool in Arivis Vision4D and it usually
works, but with some datasets the surface cutting does not occur where I
draw the line. Sometimes there is no cutting at all and sometimes it occurs
far from the manually drawn cut line, and I can’t figure out the cause or a
pattern of when/why this happens. Has anyone experienced the same and found
a solution to this issue? I’m using Vision4D 2.12.3 x64 on Win10.

Thanks,
Esteban

Dear Esteban,

There are a couple  possible causes/reasons -
The splitting tool in Vision4d will split the surfaces along Voxel
boundaries. In larger structures, this tends to work as expected, but it
can produce unexpected results in smaller structures - in some cases  those
structures will not exist.

I'm not specifically aware of a bug, but it could an issue related to the
now very old  version 2.12.3 (released in 10-Oct-2016) .  Please send me
your dongle number directly, so I can verify upgrade eligibility, to see
what other version you could run. We have had numerous releases since then
(current release version is 3.1.3), and function has definitely been
improved since 2.12.3.

My office contact is below,
Best Regards
Arvonn

Arvonn,

Thanks for your response.  We pinned the splitting problem down to
images that were cropped and resampled within Vision4D (prior to
surface creation).  Therefore we reasoned that exporting to TIFF would
abandon any bugs/glitches in the SIS file resulting from the
resampling.  Indeed exporting the resampled data to TIFF and importing
back into Vision4D fixed the surface splitting problem!  Surfaces are
split as easily and nicely in our resampled images as in
full-resolution images. I'll contact you offline fo upgrade options as
you suggested.

Regards,
Esteban
