The Fink Lab is seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to add to the team! We use state-of-the-art microscopy techniques and cellular and animal models to answer pressing biological questions in cancer, lymphatic and nerve biology, and inflammation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in fluorescence imaging, experimental mouse colony management, mouse surgery, and record-keeping and organizational skills. Additional responsibilities may include supervision of undergraduate research projects and laboratory management. South Dakota State University has been awarded a several million dollar grant to improve research infrastructure and facilitate collaborative work across the state (BioSNTR); my laboratory is part of this initiative, and this position will have access to fantastic resources. The link to the research assistant full position description and application information is below. https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=60533 RESEARCH ASSISTANT Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry South Dakota State University RESPONSIBILITIES: - Performs mouse surgery and live imaging: o Injections o Suturing o Post-surgical monitoring o Intravital fluorescence microscopy including multiphoton imaging - Designs, performs, and interprets results of laboratory experiments including: o Fluorescence microscopy o Nucleic acid and protein techniques o Cell culture o Immunohistochemistry o FACS - Maintains experimental mouse colonies: o Breeding o Genotyping - Manages laboratory operations: o Ordering supplies and reagents o Maintaining laboratory equipment o Record-keeping o Organization o May oversee undergraduate research projects - Prepares manuscripts for publication and presents data at local, regional, or national meetings MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: - Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or related science by start date and one year of experience OR - Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or related science by start date Other requirements: - Appropriate level of critical thinking and math skills to perform laboratory experiments - Effective written communication skills - Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Additional 1-2 years of research experience - Experience working with laboratory mice - Mouse colony management experience - Mouse surgery experience - Microscopy experience SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications.
