Higher Research Scientist - BioMetrology

The BioMetrology group at NPL is a multidisciplinary team working to develop cutting-edge measurement science to understand biological systems and processes from the molecular to the multicellular level. Our research underpins advances in biological R&D to address key national and global priorities including drug and antimicrobial discovery, cell and gene therapies, regenerative medicine and synthetic biology.

As part of a team of biologists, chemists and physicists, you will develop and apply state-of-the-art computational techniques for quantitative analysis of images of a range of biological systems from proteins to multicellular models. You will focus particularly on working with high resolution fluorescence images generated by super-resolution, light sheet and confocal microscopy platforms used within the group.

With a physical or engineering sciences related PhD or equivalent work experience, you have a solid background in optical microscopy, image analysis and scientific software development using MATLAB, Python, ImageJ or similar. Additional desirable skills and experience include working with biological samples and biophysical analysis techniques.
You should have a customer focused attitude, ensuring timely delivery of  R&D projects with a range of industrial and academic partners. You can work independently, collaboratively and safely, applying your skills creatively and flexibly to a range of broader measurement science applications. Your technical expertise should be complemented by excellent communication skills including writing technical reports, scientific papers and delivering oral presentations
Interviews will be held on 4th, 12th and 18th December. We will be reviewing applications prior to the closing date. Please note we may close the vacancy before the end date.
