Job Description The specialist will be responsible for routine maintenance of the infrastructure in the Imaging Facility which includes confocal microscopes, epi-fluorescence microscopes, a PALM laser micro-dissection microscope, a Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) Microscope, and a number of image analysis workstations. Duties will also include consultations with users, basic training, setting up of user accounts, trouble shooting system problems as well as sample preparation issues. Assisting users with post acquisition data processing. Continued development of training modules, and some administrative duties like ordering and billing of users for instrument time will also be expected. The microscopy specialist will also be expected to assist in planning and implementing one to three workshops on such topics as confocal microscopy, live cell imaging and image processing. Experience Minimum BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Cell Biology or a related field. First hand (intermediate) experience with light microscopy (including epi fluorescence) is a minimal requirement. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work with many different people and also as part of a team. Experience with confocal microscopy, TIRF microscopy, or live cell imaging would be an asset. Familiarity with advance image analysis and experience with MetaMorph, Volocity, ImagePro, AutoQuant, Image J or the Zeiss Axiovision image analysis software, as well as downstream applications such as Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator would be an asset.
