Dear all,
The Gene Center of the University of Munich is seeking a scientist to build and maintain a multi-user BioImaging Facility for a new research focus in molecular systems biology. In close collaboration with lab heads, the appointee will establish multiple setups for advanced fluorescence microscopy (single-, multi- photon and DeltaVision image restoration systems, fitted for FRAP/Photoactivation) and cytometry (analysis and sorting), including appropriate analytical software. Collaborative research within our dynamic and highly interactive scientific environment will be strongly encouraged. Our interdisciplinary institute studies the molecular, cellular and developmental mechanisms of gene regulation with a combination of structural biology/biochemistry, genetics/genomics, bioinformatics and systems biology, using yeast, fly and mammalian cells as experimental models. Your tasks: Acquisition and maintenance of instrumentation and software; training and advising of users; monitoring new developments in BioImaging through attendance of workshops and conferences; collaborative research. Your profile: PhD in biology or related field, at least two years of postdoctoral research, with extensive experience in advanced fluorescence microscopy, including live cell imaging, and image analysis. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an enthusiastic approach towards new techniques, motivation to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art imaging technology and the flexibility to interact with a diverse group of researchers. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are also essentiell. The salary is according to the TV-L (Tarifvertrag der Länder) and depends on your experience. The position is initially for two years, but we are interested in a long-term relationship. Interviewing of candidates will begin January 12, 2009, until position is filled. The University of Munich is an equal opportunity employer; applications from women are particularly encouraged.
