SCIENTIFIC
OFFICER – MICROSCOPY SPECIALIST To
develop in vivo imaging projects. Salary
range £22,100 – £37,100 The Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. We are core funded by Cancer Research UK and support cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute has recently moved to a new facility that provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies. We are building a research program using genetically engineered models of cancer to investigate mechanisms of proliferation and metastasis. We now seek a Scientific Officer, specialising in microscopy, to work within the Beatson Advanced Imaging Resource (BAIR) to devise and implement imaging strategies to interrogate these cancer models. This position will support the imaging needs of Glasgow Centre for Cancer Research, comprising the Beatson Institute and Glasgow University Division of Cancer Studies and Molecular Pathology. Applicants must have a relevant PhD and experience using confocal and multi-photon microscopy to image fluorescent proteins in vitro and in vivo. Fluorescence techniques in use include photo-activation, photobleaching, Quantum Dots, fluorescence lifetime imaging, and whole-body fluorescence microscopy. Equipment in use includes a LaVision TRIM scope with OPO and FLIM module, Olympus FV-1000 with SIM scanner, Olympus OV-100, and Ivis 50. We also employ a Visualsonics Vevo 770 machine for ultrasound imaging (familiarity with ultrasound is advantageous but not essential).
