Bring your expertise in image processing, computer vision and/or machine learning to design novel algorithms towards the solution of cell biological problems in an interdisciplinary laboratory. Latest generation equipment and facilities are available on the microscopy and computational side. A young, growing laboratory in a leading german university seeks to develop microscopy assays that combine the latest in superresolution microscopy technology with computational image processing. We offer german E13 pay grade including full social security. Position is for 4 years, may be renewed if the consortium grant is renewed. - Perform computational image analysis using extant software packages and custom-designed algorithms to quantitate and visualize biologically relevant metrics. - Work on your own project towards high-content superresolution data analysis. - Train and support user-directed operation of computational tools when necessary. The position is from now until June 30th, 2020. The grant may be extended for another 4 years and then another 4 years, so this is a position with perspective. The position is in association with a fast-growing Imaging facility at one of the best universities in Europe. It is embedded in a group with long experience in development and application to cell biological problems of cutting edge microscopy techniques. Qualifications: Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or PhD in Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Biophysics Substantial experience in computing or statistical data analysis that includes programming experience in MATLAB is required. Experience in using Imaris, ImageJ, Fiji and/or other image processing software is required. OMOERO experience would be useful. Experience with microscopy preferred but not essential. Duties may include assisting with experimental design or data acquisition if there are sufficient hands-on experience with microscopy hardware. Please find the official job offer here. I would be happy if you could forward it to interested colleagues. best regards from Cologne, Astrid Schauss The mission of the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases (CECAD) is to unravel the common molecular mechanisms underlying lifespan regulation and aging-associated diseases to set the ground to achieve its long-term objective of developing novel therapeutic interventions. CECAD forms a focal point of ageing research in Europe bringing together researchers and clinicians at the University of Cologne with researchers at the new Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in a unique research venture. The CECAD Imaging Facility is recruiting a highly motivated staff scientist for our Electron Microscopy core platform. 1 Electron Microscopy Specialist 39.83 working hours per week The CECAD Imaging facility is a growing core light and electron microscopy facility enabling different aspects of researchers´ imaging projects including: design of imaging experiments, choice of and training on suitable imaging systems, full service including sample preparation and imaging for TEM, image processing, visualization and analysis. With a current staff of six (two EM technicians included) we want to further strengthen the EM core with a staff scientist position. The EM core is equipped with an EM-PACT2, AFS2, two ultramicrotomes including cryo-box, Leica-CLEM and a soon arriving TEM 200kV from JEOL (2100Plus) including tomography and cryo option. Requirements: We are seeking an ambitious and service-oriented team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. You should have a diploma, master´s or doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in biology, biophysics, optics, engineering or equivalent, be fluent in English and be ready to help scientists with both trivial and advanced aspects of their electron microscopy projects. Extensive hands-on experience in transmission electron microscopy, relevant sample preparation methods involving biological tissues and cell lines, high-pressure freezing/freeze substitution and immune-labeling procedures are required. Additional experience in EM-tomography, cryo-EM and correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) are a strong plus. Within the CRC 1218, the challenging technique of CLEM will be set up and other methods including tomography and cryo-EM need to be established. We offer a dynamic international multi-user environment, very good working conditions and the chance to develop and set-up challenging EM techniques within our team. The position is available immediately. The initial contract is for 4 years with a salary of E13 (depending on qualifications and experience) and the possibility of further extension. The University of Cologne is an equal-opportunity employer and especially encourages women to apply. Applications from handicapped persons will be favored if all other qualifications are equal. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact the head of the Imaging facility, Dr. Astrid Schauss, email: [hidden email] . Interested applicants are asked to submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests and experience and contact information (Email address and phone number) of two referees in a single pdf-file by July 29th. ********************************************************************** Dr. Astrid C.
