The job number is 18434. ---------------- *CRL-MIC Job Description * The Cancer Research Laboratory’s Molecular Imaging Center (CRL-MIC) is looking for a motivated microscopist to join our team. The MIC is a core light microscopy facility serving the UC Berkeley campus and community, and includes a dozen advanced laser-based microscope systems, including laser scanning confocal, spinning disk confocal, lightsheet, multiphoton, super resolution, optogenetic stimulation and fluorescent lifetime imaging. The MIC is a fast paced, service-oriented facility with multiple campus locations and a broad user base. *Responsibilities* The Staff Research Associate II will assist the MIC manager in providing training, service, and customization for the user base. Users are primarily from Molecular and Cell Biology, Chemistry, BioEngineering, and Biophysics. Training and assisting new and advanced users in basic to advanced light microscopy techniques. Maintaining and calibrating microscope systems. Training and assisting users in image analysis and quantification. Possible writing scripts or macros for analysis or custom acquisition. Assist with annual microscopy workshop. Assist with day-to-day operations of the facility and general laboratory tasks. Some record-keeping, ordering, safety checks, and other laboratory assignments as needed. *Qualifications* *Required* Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering with minimum 2-3 years of experience. In-depth knowledge of theory and hands-on practice in as many of the following as possible: laser scanning confocal, spinning disk confocal, super resolution, TIRF, live cell or live specimen imaging is essential. Experience with commercial imaging systems (Zeiss, Nikon, 3i) and software (Metamorph, Zen, NIS-Elements, Slidebook, Imaris.). Proficiency with ImageJ, FIJI, Matlab. Experience with cell tissue culture and sterile technique and IHC. Ability to work with a large, diverse community of users with an emphasis on customer service. Ability to handle multiple tasks of varying priority and time commitments. Self-motivated and independent with desire to learn and assist others is essential. Ability to interface with sales representatives and service engineers. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and maneuver around and under large tables and equipment. *Preferred* Master’s degree with relevant experience is preferred. Experience in fluorescent lifetime imaging, multiphoton imaging or optogenetic research is a plus. Experience in sample prep for STORM/PALM is preferred. Programming experience (Matlab, Java, C++) preferred. Experience with custom or home-built microscope systems is a plus.
