With a current staff of three plus available faculty experts trained in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), cryo-Electron Microscope (Cryo-EM), Confocal, Multiphoton, other Fluorescence Microscopes, and the image processing workstations including AUTO3DEM, EMAN2, Bitplane IMARIS, VOLOCITY, HUYGENS Deconvolution, the Microscopy Imaging Facility ( http://www.pennstatehershey.org/web/core/microscopy-histology) provides a range of microscopy imaging services to researchers throughout the Pennsylvania State University. The Microscopy Imaging Facility currently occupies >2000 square feet of space and is equipped with a JEOL 1400 TEM, JEOL 2100 Cryo-EM, a Leica SP8 White Light Laser Confocal, a DeltaVision Elite and a Nikon A1MP+ Multiphoton Microscope System. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Master’s Degree is preferred) with extensive hands-on experience in transmission electron microscopy imaging, relevant sample preparation methods involving biological tissues and cell lines, negative staining, immune-labeling procedures, and preferably additional core management experience. The primary expertise required for the position will be in TEM microscopy and relevant sample preparation methods; not required but advantageous would be additional experience in light microscopy and CryoEM methods. The successful candidate must show evidence of strong oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to collaborate with others, as (s)he will be working with a wide variety of biomedical researchers to aid in the design and successful completion of diverse research projects, as well as aiding in grant preparations in our various departments and institutes (e.g., the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, the Heart and Vascular Institute, and the Huck Institute of the Life Sciences).
