*Transmission Electron Microscopist – Microscopy Imaging Facility*

The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, Pennsylvania

The Microscopy Imaging Facility at the Pennsylvania State University
College of Medicine seeks qualified applicants for a Core Facility Electron
Microscopist position. With a current staff of three plus available faculty
experts trained in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), cryo-Electron
Microscope (Cryo-EM), Confocal, Multiphoton, other Fluorescence
Microscopes, and the image processing workstations including AUTO3DEM,
EMAN2, Bitplane IMARIS, VOLOCITY, HUYGENS Deconvolution, the Microscopy
Imaging Facility (
http://www.pennstatehershey.org/web/core/microscopy-histology) provides a
range of microscopy imaging services to researchers throughout the
Pennsylvania State University. The

Microscopy Imaging Facility currently occupies >2000 square feet of space
and is equipped with a JEOL 1400 TEM, JEOL 2100 Cryo-EM, a Leica SP8 White
Light Laser Confocal, a DeltaVision Elite and a Nikon A1MP+ Multiphoton
Microscope System.

Minimum qualifications for the position include a Bachelor’s Degree in
Science (Master’s Degree is preferred) with extensive hands-on experience
in transmission electron microscopy imaging, relevant sample preparation
methods involving biological tissues and cell lines, negative staining,
immune-labeling procedures, and preferably additional core management
experience. The primary expertise required for the position will be in TEM
microscopy and relevant sample preparation methods; not required but
advantageous would be additional experience in light microscopy and CryoEM
methods. The successful candidate must show evidence of strong oral and
written communication skills as well as the ability to collaborate with
others, as (s)he will be working with a wide variety of biomedical
researchers to aid in the design and successful completion of diverse
research projects, as well as aiding in grant preparations in our various
departments and institutes (e.g., the Penn State Clinical and Translational
Science Institute, the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, the Heart and
Vascular Institute, and the Huck Institute of the Life Sciences).

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s
experience and qualifications. Candidates should submit

a single PDF packet containing a letter of application, a concise statement
of relevant research experience in transmission electron microscopy methods
and imaging, curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for three
references. Electronic applications should be sent to [hidden email].
Candidates should apply online at https://psu.jobs/job/58857 as well.

The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine is an equal
opportunity, affirmative action employer. Women and minority candidates are
