I'd welcome applications from list members for a new position opening in this very active, collegial facility at the top of New York City.
Please share with talented lab members or others who may be interested!
Columbia University Medical Center is hiring a Staff Associate (Officer of Research) for our Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource.
The facility serves over 200 basic research labs at Columbia University, and is located in the recently constructed Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center in upper Manhattan. Instruments range from laser capture and widefield microscopes to confocal, 2-photon, TIRF and super-resolution systems. Full details are available at the facility website.
The Staff Associate will report to the Facility Manager. The Associate’s primary responsibility will be to advise, train and assist users in image acquisition, processing and analysis. The Associate will also be responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of imaging and computer systems for image acquisition and analysis; purchasing supplies; and assisting with scheduling and billing. Opportunities to assist with outreach, workshops, and facility expansion will be available. Collaborative studies with the Director or other researchers are possible for motivated individuals.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field plus 4 years relevant experience required; Master's or Ph.D. preferred. Experience with advanced microscopy, including sample preparation, image acquisition, and image analysis; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; flexibility to interact with researchers with varying background; motivation to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art imaging technology, and an interest in applying this knowledge to help facility users get optimal results.
