Disciplines: biology, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, biophysics Salary: NIH guidelines We focus on the molecular and biomechanical mechanisms of cell sheet morphogenesis during dorsal closure in the model system, Drosophila melanogaster (reviewed in Kiehart et al. 2017 Ann. Rev. Cell Dev. Biol. 33:169). Cell sheet morphogenesis, an essential process for metazoan development and homeostasis of animal form, contributes to developmental milestones including gastrulation, neural tube, heart and palate formation and to homeostasis through its role in wound healing. Gene expression and signaling cascades coordinate and regulate the cellular machines that drive morphogenesis. Disfunction of any one of these components causes developmental and wound healing defects that can disfigure or kill. Ongoing projects in the lab employ a multidisciplinary approach that includes: • High resolution imaging (i.e. Chen et al. 2014 Science 346(6208):1257998) • Biophysics (i.e. Sokolow et al. 2012 Biophys J 102(5):969-79) • Computer modeling (i.e. Wells et al. 2014 Mol Biol Cell 25(22):3552-68) • Genetics (i.e. Mortensen et al. 2018 G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics 8:2361, see fig) • Molecular and cell biology (i.e. Franke et al. 2005 Curr Bio 15:2208-2221; Hunter et al. 2014 Dev 141(2): 325-34) Candidates must hold a PhD or anticipate completion of a PhD prior to starting the postdoc and must have prior publications. To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, statement of research interest, names and contact information for three references and a publication list via Academic Jobs Online. We will begin reviewing applications immediately and will fill the position as soon as is possible.
