Job opening for Programmer/Scientist on the Micro-Manager team

We are looking for a programmer/scientist to join our team in Ron  
Vale’s lab at UC San Francisco working on the Micro-Manager software (http://micro-manager.org 
).Micro-Manager is an open-source software package for microscope  
control. Micro-Manager enables scientists to perform basic and  
advanced image acquisition tasks (snapshots, multi-wavelength images,  
video, time-series, 3D imaging) and has a well-designed user interface  
that allows extension of the software and custom applications. Micro-
Manager serves hundreds of laboratories around the world and its  
popularity is growing rapidly. This success is fueled by close  
interactions between software engineers and scientists at the UCSF  
Mission Bay campus in San Francisco.

The incumbent will be involved in strategic decision making for  
management of the project and the software architecture, develop  
software for new imaging applications, maintain and develop hardware  
device adapters, work on the graphical user interface, help refine  
scripting interfaces, maintain code, developer’s and user’s  
documentation, closely collaborate with scientists and hardware  
manufacturers, provide customer support for scientists at UCSF and  
around the world, and be involved in all other aspects of the project.

We expect the incumbent to have experience working on large software  
projects, to be fluent in Java and C++, to have experience with  
hardware device programming, to have a strong interest in biological  
imaging and scientific research, to have affinity for open source  
programming projects, excellent communication skills, and be an  
enthusiastic problem solver and team player.

This position is for a period of 3 years at the University of  
California, San Francisco, Mission Bay Campus.
Salary: Commensurate with experience. UCSF provides a highly
