Dear confocalists,

The position below is still open; we have changed the title to Postdoctoral Research Scientist. Please note that this is still an Officer position (salaried with good benefits) and there will be an option to move into a permanent Staff Associate position.

Please share, and feel free to contact me or Dr. Pon with any questions.

Columbia University Medical Center is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Scientist for our Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource. The facility serves over 200 basic research labs at Columbia University, and is located in the recently constructed Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center in upper Manhattan. Instruments range from laser capture and widefield microscopes to confocal, 2-photon, TIRF and super-resolution SIM and STORM systems. Full details are available at the facility website (http://www.hiccc.columbia.edu/research/sharedresources/confocal).

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will report to the Facility Manager. The Scientist's primary responsibility will be to advise, train and assist users in image acquisition, processing and analysis. The Scientist will also be responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of imaging and computer systems for image acquisition and analysis; purchasing supplies; and assisting with scheduling and billing. Opportunities to assist with outreach, workshops, and facility expansion will be available. Collaborative studies with the Director or other researchers are possible for motivated individuals.

This is an Officer of Research position (benefits are similar to those of faculty), and it has the option to become a permanent Staff Associate position.

Requirements:
Ph.D. degree in a relevant scientific field; experience with advanced microscopy, including sample preparation, image acquisition, and image analysis; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; flexibility to interact with researchers with varying background; motivation to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art imaging technology, and an interest in applying this knowledge to help facility users get optimal results.

Please contact me or Facility Director Liza Pon ([hidden email]) for further details.

Best regards,
Theresa
