Description:

We are seeking a skilled individual for the Facility for Imaging by Light Microscopy [FILM].
This post involves setup, maintenance, and user support and training for a range of state-
of-the art light microscopes. It requires a high standard of technical expertise in the area
of light microscopy. You will have responsibility for the day-to-day co-ordination, running
and maintenance of the microscopes, in conjunction with other FILM staff.

You will have particular responsibility for a new High Content Screening (HCS)
microscope with duties ranging from assay and screen design, assay
development/optimization, image analysis and automated data analysis for high content
assay in a wide range of experimental systems.

An important element of the post will be support in data handling and processing, which
will comprise optimising and implementing algorithms and liaising with the Bioinformatics
Support Service (BSS) to develop an integrated data workflow including data acquisition
software, image database, central processing via established software tools (commercial
and open source) etc. This will require automation of workflows through scripting.

Expertise in computer programming is highly desirable. You must have a Bachelor Degree
in a technical or biological area related to high content & light microscopy, or equivalent
experience.
You will have proven experience in light microscopy, and a strong background in high-
content imaging, computational image analysis using commercial and open-source
softwares and computer programming.
You will also have excellent interpersonal skills, and an ambition to run the facility
service for the benefit of microscope users.

This post is full-time, fixed term for up to 60 months and based primarily at the South
Kensington Campus although some time may occasionally be spent at the FILM satellite at
the Hammersmith Hospital campus.
