The Friedrich
Miescher Institute, an international biomedical research center with 300
members, is part of the Novartis Research Foundation and is affiliated with the
University of Basel. We are devoted to fundamental biomedical research. Our
goal is to exploit new technologies to further our understanding of the basic
molecular mechanisms that underlie health and disease.
We are looking for
a highly motivated and good-humored
Technical Assistant in Microscopy
to help running our facility for advanced imaging and microscopy. In this role,
you will maintain microscopes, explain their operation to users, help with
basic image processing, troubleshoot problems and maintain facility
consumables. Depending on skills and interests you will deputize for the Head
microscopy in maintaining the facility website and program short
macro/plugins/scripts for image processing.
For this
challenging position you should possess a degree, preferably in optics,
electronics or biology (technician diploma, BSc, MSc or equivalent), and/or
several years of experience in microscopy. A broad knowledge of wide-field,
laser scanning confocal and spinning disk confocal microscopy is essential.
Familiarity with imaging software and image processing (filtering,
deconvolution, color unmixing, stack processing) is an advantage.
You will need
fluency in English, excellent communication and organizational skills and the
ability to work as a team member. We look for a service-oriented and
