We have a vacancy for an optical microscopy support specialist in the Bioimaging facility at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, UK. This is a permanent position in a core facility. Bioimaging supports light and electron microscopy at JIC and across the whole of Norwich Research Park. We look after a wide range of instruments, which on the light microscopy side include stereo, wide-field, scanning confocal (also Airyscan), spinning disc and super-resolution (Elyra PS1) microscopes. Research at JIC is mostly based on plants and microbes plus the occasional insect and mammalian cells that scientists in the research park are interested in.
Applicants should have extensive practical experience in a range of light microscopy techniques, good communication skills, enthusiasm for helping our broad range of users achieve their research aims and for assisting in driving the facility forward as it adopts new technologies. An understanding of some of the more advanced techniques such as FRET/FLIM, SIM & SMLM and image analysis is highly desirable, as is a PhD in a relevant subject. Candidates with considerable practical experience in confocal microscopy and strong computing skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
Closing Date: 7th March 2019
Salary in the range: £31,250 - £38,100
