Columbia University Medical Center is hiring a Staff Associate (Officer of Research) for our Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource.
https://academicjobs.columbia.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=57553

The facility serves over 200 basic research labs at Columbia University, and is located in the recently constructed Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center in upper Manhattan. Instruments include a Nikon A1R MP multiphoton system with spectral detector and TIRF, Nikon A1 confocal system, Zeiss LSM 510 Meta, Zeiss PALM Microbeam IV laser capture microdissection system, and a widefield digital deconvolution system. We are installing a structured illumination (SR-SIM) and spinning-disk microscope in 2013.  Accessories include stagetop incubators, tissue culture suite and a CellAsic microfluidic perfusion system.

The Staff Associate will work under the Facility Manager, or can be co-manager depending on qualifications. The Associate’s primary responsibility will be to advise, train and assist users in image acquisition, processing and analysis. Additional responsibilities include maintenance and troubleshooting of imaging and computer systems for image acquisition and analysis; purchasing supplies; overseeing scheduling and billing systems; and developing macros to meet specific user needs. Collaborative studies with the Director or other researchers will be encouraged for motivated individuals.

Requirements:

BS/BA in a relevant scientific field is required; Ph.D. preferred. Training and experience with fluorescence and confocal microscopy, including sample preparation, image acquisition, and image analysis; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; motivation to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art imaging technology; and the flexibility to interact with a diverse group of researchers.
