Greetings fellow microscopists,

An opening is currently available for a full-time junior scientist position at the University Imaging Centers (UIC) at the University of Minnesota on the Twin Cities campus.  The UIC (uic.umn.edu) compose a network of core imaging facilities for light microscopy and basic electron microscopy located in multiple locations within the Academic Health Center, Medical School and College of Biological Science. The UIC cores serve over 450 labs in the design of imaging experiments, choice of and training on suitable imaging systems, and subsequent image processing, visualization and analysis. The UIC provides more than 25 advanced imaging systems including wide-field microscopy, spinning disk, TIRF, six laser-scanning confocal microscopes, two multi-photon microscopes (one them with Second Harmonic Generation), laser capture micro-dissection, live cell systems, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, whole animal fluorescence and chemiluminescence scanners, assorted optical microscopies, gel scanners and printing services. UIC anticipates expanding more aggressively in the areas of sample preparation, live-cell / live-animal imaging and super resolution microscopy.

We are seeking a junior scientist level candidate to be based in our St. Paul UIC facility who is a service-oriented team player with excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills who enjoys helping people. They should have a recent B.S (or higher) degree in biology or relevant discipline, be ready to help researchers by understanding basic aspects of biological sample preparation for LM imaging projects within the UIC. Microscopy experience from sample preparation to image acquisition and analysis would be a strong plus. The successful candidate will also be training users on the optimal operation of several optical and confocal microscopes in a dynamic multi-user environment where four basic areas of service must be covered: a) maximize the availability of advanced imaging technologies and methodologies to faculty, staff, students and external users, b) bring expertise in new imaging technologies to users, c) educate the University community about new imaging technologies, d) promote interaction between developers of new imaging technology and potential users.
